How can mold cure retreading benefit my fleet?
-
The pre cure process requires the use of a bonding gum layer of rubber that vulcanizes the tread rubber to the tire casing. This bonding gum layer adds weight and cost to the retread. Mold cure retreading does not require this bonding gum layer so the cost of this item is eliminated from the mold cure retread.
-
Pre cure tread rubber is manufactured in factories far away from most retread shops. Pre cure tread rubber manufacturers charge a premium price for their product. Mold cure retreader purchase their tread rubber in its unvulcanized form which is typically half the cost of pre cure tread rubber. That cost of materials savings is reflected in mold cure retreading’s lower cost.
-
Because of the precision required in mold cure retreading to fit the radial tire to the mold precise measurements must be taken at various stages of production. This means that your retreads are produced to an exact diameter that also translates into matched duals on all your equipment.
-
Mold cure retreading requires 180-200 PSI of curing pressure for successful vulcanization. This “positive pressure” results in the read rubber being forced into the buffed surface creating a positive bond between the buffed casing and the new tread rubber. Also, any repairs that are required are bonded securely with the “positive pressure” of our mold cure process.
Why do most retreaders use the pre cure process?
Mold cure retreading requires a very substantial investment in the various sizes of molds. Most retreaders are unwilling to make this investment. To successfully retread today’s sophisticated radial tires requires each and every tire to be measured to ensure proper mold fit. Dellwood Tire uses both the mold cure and pre cure systems.
Does pre cure retreading perform better and wear longer?
Retread wear and performance is dependent upon many variables such as tread compound, tread depth and design, application, tread width and radius, etc. Today’s radial tire mold cure compounds perform on an equal level as pre cure retreading, with all other variables being equal. |
